I told you that there would be a lot of stuff happening once the raid was cleared yesterday in Destiny 2, but perhaps I was even underselling it. In addition to other changes and quests, there are now three new exotics that you can go hunt down in the game that were unavailable previously, The Lament, Cloudstrike and Eyes of Tomorrow, meaning all currently known exotics are in the game except Hawkmoon now, which is coming later in Season of the Hunt at some point.
So, which Destiny 2 activities do you need to do to get which weapon? I’m going to go in order of least to most complex, starting with one that is very straightforward indeed.
Eyes of Tomorrow
For the first time in a long while, Bungie kept the raid exotic under wraps ahead of time. It’s an exotic rocket launcher that shoots multiple targets at once, and I’m already seeing it wreck some havoc in PvP. To get it is both easy and hard. We are back to the days where the raid exotic is simply a random drop for clearing the raid like Anarchy and Tarrabah before it.
The difference? While it’s not confirmed yet, we probably are utilizing the system where every subsequent clear of the raid without getting Eyes of Tomorrow to drop increases its chances. So the more you beat the raid, eventually it will become more or less a coinflip whether you get it or not, rather than the 5% chance or whatever it’s starting at. As such, you are only going to see a small handful of day one folks getting it now, but once the raid gets rid of contest mode and everyone hops in for multiple clears a week, this will become a lot more common.
I was not expecting this one to go live at all, but this is tied to new Variks Sabotage nodes that are accessible after you beat his new quest that is live after the raid. If doing his exo challenge doesn’t make it appear, do the new Exo Stranger mission just in case too.
By that point you should see two nodes in the middle, Europan Explorer I and II. If you unlock both of these, you will then open up an Empire Hunt “playlist” where you no longer have to spend currency to play them, and there are new versions at different power levels that include modifiers and champions like a Nightfall ordeal.
Cloudstrike is listed as a “rare” reward from every level of difficulty, even the easiest one at below 1200 power. I am not sure if your chance to get it increases as difficulty goes up, but the point is you can get it anywhere. So get these two nodes, then get to farming.
Alright, now we arrive at the one that’s an actual quest with a bunch of steps to acquire Destiny 2’s new chainsaw sword. Start by picking up the quest from Banshee. He’s given us a lot of weapon quests, but this one is special for him.
Step 1 – Find three dead exo. These are like dead ghosts that play little voice messages when you find them, scattered around Europa. There are nine total and you only need three. Use Houndish’s video like I did.
Step 2– Find the giant exo head. Yeah, so this is something. There’s a huge new area unlocked in Clovis Bray Creation that you can now go through, and you should be able to find the giant exo head using a waypoint on your map. This will trigger a new…interaction, and the rest of the quest.
Step 3 – Use swords to defeat Vex. You need 100 final blows on Vex and 20 final blows on Minotaurs, Hydras and Cyclops. This is annoying because if an enemy is a orange or yellow bar they don’t count. I ran the Perdition lost sector and just killed the first three minotaurs, ran out, then ran back in again.
Step 4 – Do an exo challenge. This is the new thing you get from Variks. If you’ve already done it, you can relaunch into one straight from the map now.
Step 5 – Do finishers on Vex on Europa. About 50 in total if you’re only doing red bars. Just busywork.
Step 6 – Find Blade Pieces in the Glassway Strike. This makes it sound like they’re hidden but they’re not. In the final boss encounter a yellow bar harpy will spawn that you simply have to kill and they will drop the pieces.
Step 7 – You talk to Banshee then just have to go run the Bunker Lost Sector in Eventide Ruins. The new thing you need is in the final boss chest.
Step 8 – There is a final “Reforging the Past” mission where you will have to protect the giant exo head and you will get the sword itself during this encounter. Then you go back to Banshee for some uhhhh rather important revelations. Seriously, don’t skip the text or lore for this quest. It’s a doozy.
Then, you have your sword. Charge it up by holding block then hack away at bosses to build stacks for massive damage. This thing might outperform Falling Guillotine, which is saying something.
So, there you have it. Let me know when you grab any of these, and if this guide helped.
